In 2010 the Council engaged in consultation with its members, project partners and stakeholders to identify a clear road map for the future of the organisation. The process identified the key challenges facing the Wicklow uplands and the Uplands Council and key priorities for action during the period 2011 -2013. The following were identified as the four key priorities for action:
Priority 1 Engagement tasks to build consensus
Priority 2 Represent uplands shared interests
Priority 3 Development of innovative projects to support Uplands sustainability
Priority 4 Organisational development and implementation of communication strategy
The Board of the Council is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Strategic Plan and progress is assessed twice per year using a series of performance indicators. The Uplands Council employs a part time co-ordinator (4 days per week) and an administrator (10 hours a week) so there is a need to be realistic about what can be achieved by the organisation. The focus must be on a small number of key priorities and projects which make a clear contribution to the development of the shared vision of the Uplands Council.
