Farmers & Property Owners

Farming and forestry have left a strong imprint on the Wicklow countryside. Generations of farmers have earned their livelihoods from the area and today remain an integral part of the uplands environment.

‘The Cheviot Sheep Owners Association has been involved in Wicklow Uplands Council since it was set up and we fully support its activities. It has been instrumental in listening to farmers views and bridging the gaps that used to exist between farmers and others that use the hills. It is a really great organisation that has built much wanted consensus among the very diverse groups and communities that live in, farm and use the Wicklow Uplands for leisure‘

Jim Fitzsimons, Secretary, Wicklow Cheviot Sheep Owners Association.

'The Uplands Council helped to facilitate an agreed access route on my property for recreational walkers. This minimised disturbance to my private residence while providing a trail fit for purpose to the open hill for walkers.'

Sean Byrne, Sheep Farmer and owner of Lough Dan House Guest Accommodation.

'Wicklow Uplands Council provides a forum where recreationalists can understand and value the importance of farmers and landowners to our heritage and environment.'

John Byrne, Dairy Farmer, Ballycumber, South Wicklow
